Our 2022 Confirmation Class meets on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 9:45 in the Social Hall. Our class is open to ages 12 and up. Parents, please get in touch with Pastor Chris if you are interested in enrolling your child in this year’s class!
Our curriculum is based on the Affirming Faith resources written by Thomas E. Dipko, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and the former executive vice president of the United Church Board for Homeland Ministries.
The Affirming Faith Confirmand’s Journal is a guidebook for the confirmation journey that gives background information for each session, and contains scriptures, stories, and prayers. It asks important questions that can be discussed in a group or contemplated on one’s own. Journaling space is provided for each student to personally reflect about God and their faith.
Traditionally, Confirmation is intended to “confirm” the intention of young people to make the faith of their baptism their own. Historically, people raised in the Reformed traditions of the Protestant church have been baptized as infants, and then confirm this faith in adolescence. Prior baptism is not required to be part of our Confirmation class, and though our curriculum is written from a United Church of Christ perspective, and Confirmands are welcomed into the official membership of the local church, our approach is much more focused on the idea of faith as a lifelong journey. We look at Biblical history, the history of the church in general, and to one another as we learn about the part we play in God’s unfolding story, and the ways in which God is present in our own unfolding stories.
