Ministry and Mission

As we celebrate our 250th anniversary throughout 2019, we are renewing and recommitting to the missional nature of what it means to be Christ’s Church at Lowhill.

The three parts of our church’s name help guide this commitment.  First and foremost, we are Christ’s.  As people and as a congregation, we are followers of Jesus and find in that relationship new life.  Second, we are church.  We are a gathering of folks from all kinds of backgrounds seeking to follow God in the way of Jesus.  Just as important as being Christ’s and being church, we are a church of Jesus Christ situated in a specific time and place.  We’re proud of our historic roots in Lowhill township, Lehigh County, and the Lehigh Valley in general.  Our members and friends come from all over the Lehigh Valley and beyond, and our ministry and mission programs seek to bless our local community as well as regional, national, and international communities.

Below are some of the ways we seek to live and build our ministry and mission.

Lowhill Food Pantry: Partnering with other churches as well as civic groups, schools, and businesses, Christ’s Church at Lowhill hosts and Lowhill volunteers help organize the Lowhill Food Pantry, the Blessings Shop, and the Snack Pack Program.

Joyful Noise Offering:  Collected each week during worship by our children, we support 12 different local and regional ministries throughout the year: VALOR, Meals of Wheels of Lehigh County, the Lowhill Food Pantry, New Bethany Ministries, the Sixth Street Shelter, Jenn’s House, the Allentown Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army’s Hope House for homeless women, the Lowhill Food Pantry Blessing’s Shop, the church’s emergency fund, and the maintenance fund for our historic property.

Lowhill Lights of Wonder: All donations collected during our annual Lowhill Lights of Wonder Christmas programming are passed directly on to local and regional needs.  Recent recipients include the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the PA Wounded Warriors, and the Lehigh Valley Autism Society.

Vacation Bible School: All monies collected during our seasonal and summertime Vacation Bible School programs directly help local families in need.

Through our giving to the United Church of Christ’s Our Church’s Wider Mission offering, we support the work of peace, justice, rebuilding, reconciliation, disaster relief and more nationally and internationally.  We also partner with the UCC’s Disaster Relief Ministries in times of crisis by assembling care packages, clean-up buckets, and more.

Christ’s Church at Lowhill’s operating and program expenses are partially met by congregational giving and fundraisers (Penny Parties, Candy Sales, Church Dinners) characterized by great fellowship and family fun. As we continue to grow, we’ll be exploring more opportunities to bless each other and to continue to be a blessing to our local communities, our region, and our world. Please consider how you might join us on a journey of mission, stewardship, and discovery!
