This Sunday, we’ll be talking about using the gifts God uniquely gives each of us. We all have different gifts, and that diversity, is, itself, a gift. We’re meant to live our lives in community, so that we can lean on each others’ gifts in times of need and unite all our gifts together in the work God calls us to.
Every now and then, I see a story about someone finding an old toy that’s become a collectors item, and how much more valuable these things are when they’ve been kept in their boxes. Small fortunes have been made on vintage, mint condition dolls and action figures. The thing about it though is that our spiritual gifts are sort of like the gifts we get as children: we cannot use them, enjoy them, or bless others with them unless we’re willing to take them out of the box. Unlike our favorite toys from childhood, the gifts God gives us do not increase in value the longer we keep them sealed up, boxed in, and out of sight. Let’s not waste our gifts! Let’s use them!
